Water in Gurugram does not come from a single source. Homes get treated supply through the city network, and many also draw on borewells, especially in independent floors and villas, and in societies that top up their tanks with borewell water. When the two mix in an underground or overhead tank, what reaches your tap can change through the year. Even the authorities have pointed out that mixing borewell water in a society's supply can push its TDS above what the city network delivers.
The groundwater itself is a mixed bag. A published study of pre-monsoon groundwater in Gurugram district reported that several parameters, including TDS, hardness, fluoride, nitrate and sodium, went above permissible limits in the samples it looked at. That is a study, not a rule for every street, and quality varies a lot between areas. “In the Gurugram homes we test, hardness usually comes out between 300 and 600 ppm.(and frequently pushes 500 to 800+ ppm in borewell-fed areas). ”
What to take from this: do not guess. Get your water tested, then choose the size.
