A brass ball valve is a shut-off valve that controls the flow of liquids or gases in a piping system by rotating the ball having a bore inside the valve. The ball is mounted against two seats with a shaft that connects it to the operating and control mechanism that rotates the ball. The bore exposed to the floor decides the rate at which the fluid flows through the valve. The fluid is not permitted to pass through the valve if the bore cross-section is perpendicular to the area flow. If the lever arm is parallel to the pipe, it indicates that the valve is open and if perpendicular to the pipe, it indicates that the valve is closed.
The main components of brass ball valves are:
Valve housing - It contains all the internal components of a ball valve.
Shaft - It connects the ball to the control mechanism that rotates the ball.
Seat - The valve seats provide the sealing between the ball and its body.
Ball - the ball is a sphere that has a hole in its center and that hole in the center is called the bore.
Bonnet - It is an extension of the valve housing that contains and also protects the shaft and its packing.
