Reverse osmosis (RO) is a water purification process that uses a semi permeable membrane to separate ions, unwanted molecules and larger particles from drinking water. Water is forced through these membranes with the use of pressure and force (typically from a pumping system), the usual process of osmosis is reversed via feed water being pushed through the semi-permeable membranes.

One of the most important parts of the Industrial RO system are its membranes , these  are made of spiral wound sheets of semi-permeable material designed to let pure water flow through, while keeping back all other impurities. For water purification in Industries generally the membranes with size of 40 inches length are used and for higher quantities of water membranes with 80 inches are desired.

Application areas of DOW RO Membrane BW30-365 8040 :

These are industrial membranes and used in larger filtration applications of RO Plants , Demineralization Plants , Municipal Water Treatment etc. With a Pore size of about 0.0001 micron, this excludes most dissolved contaminants while allowing water molecules to pass through it. Reverse Osmosis Process being the most efficient and economical process of filtration has got high acceptability used in industrial applications.

FAQS

1. What is the DOW BW30-365 (8040) RO membrane used for?
It's an industrial brackish water RO membrane used in larger filtration applications — RO plants, demineralization plants, and municipal water treatment systems.

2. What is the flow rate and salt rejection of the BW30-365?
It delivers 9,500 GPD (36 m³/d) flow at 225 psig applied pressure, with 99.5% stabilized salt rejection and a minimum of 99.0%.

3. What size housing does this membrane fit?
Standard 8040 format — approximately 8" diameter x 40" length, with an active surface area of 365 sq. ft.

4. What is the pore size, and what does it filter out?
Approximately 0.0001 micron, fine enough to exclude most dissolved contaminants while allowing water molecules to pass through.

5. What makes the BW30-365 resistant to fouling?
A thick 34-mil feed spacer significantly reduces the chances of membrane fouling, and its hard-shell fiberglass exterior withstands high pressure drops.

6. What is the operating pH and temperature range?
Continuous operation supports pH 2–11 (maximum 95°F above pH 10), with a wider short-term cleaning range of pH 1–13. Maximum operating temperature is 113°F (45°C).

7. What is the maximum operating pressure and feed flow rate?
Maximum operating pressure is 600 psig (41 bar), with a maximum feed flow rate of 85 GPM (19 m³/h) and a maximum pressure drop of 15 psig.

8. What water quality does this membrane require going in?
A maximum feed Silt Density Index (SDI) of 5, and free chlorine tolerance below 0.1 ppm — proper pre-treatment is essential to protect the membrane.
