FAQS

1. What is the Hydranautics CPA5-LD membrane used for?
Desalting well water for municipal drinking water, reducing TDS ahead of ion exchange systems, boiler make-up water, and producing ultrapure water for semiconductor manufacturing — the same core applications as the standard CPA3, with better fouling resistance.

2. What makes the CPA5-LD "low fouling"?
A thicker 34-mil feed spacer infused with a biostatic agent, specifically engineered to minimize biofouling and colloidal fouling while improving cleanability compared to a standard spiral-wound element.

3. What is the flow rate and salt rejection?
11,000 GPD (41.6 m³/d) permeate flow, with 99.7% salt rejection and a minimum guaranteed rejection of 99.6%.

4. How is the CPA5-LD different from the standard CPA3?
Both share the same flow rate, rejection rate, membrane area (400 sq. ft), and polymer material. The CPA5-LD uses a thicker feed spacer (34 mil vs 31 mil) with a biostatic agent and offers a wider pH cleaning range (1–13 vs 1–12.5), making it the better choice for feed water prone to biological or colloidal fouling. The standard CPA3 suits cleaner feed water sources.

5. What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature?
Maximum applied pressure of 600 psig (4.16 MPa), and maximum operating temperature of 113°F (45°C).

6. What feed water quality does this membrane require?
Maximum feedwater turbidity of 1.0 NTU and maximum SDI (15 min) of 5.0 — note this is the same feed water tolerance as the standard CPA3, so the low-fouling advantage comes from better handling of biological/colloidal fouling over time, not a higher tolerance for dirtier water upfront.

7. What is the recommended concentrate-to-permeate flow ratio?
A minimum ratio of 5:1 for any single element.
