Activated carbon in granular form is obtained from a process wherein the surface area of the carbon is increased by treating it and making small and low volume pores in it. Due to this the adsorption process becomes more effective and even the smaller quantities of activated carbon are able to get much higher surface area and better results in water treatment. . Iodine number is the basic criteria used for understanding the performance level of activated carbon. This shows the activity level (higher the number higher will be degree of activation and generally reported in mg/g (typical range 500–1200 mg/g).

Organic matters, constituents and residual disinfectants like chlorine are commonly removed from water with the help of activated carbon. It improves the taste of the treated water as well as lowers other health hazards , in addition it also safeguards other water treatment systems like RO membranes and ion exchange resins from damage which may occur due to oxidation or organic fouling. Treating water with activated carbon is a preferred water treatment technique due to its multifunctional nature.
Application areas of Activated Carbon filter media 800 i/v:-
Activated carbon is used in many industries and for wide application from water treatment to Medical use , air purification to sewage treatment. In water treatment systems like RO Plants or water softeners its placed upstream of ion exchange or membranes to remove chlorine. In sewage treatment it is placed in treatment after chlorine is introduced in the water to ensure that chlorine is able to act as a disinfectant and further residual chlorine is absorbed by the activated carbon block.
