What is a grease trap?
An oil and grease trap is a receptacle designed to intercept fats, oils, greases, and other solids before they enter the wastewater disposal system. This phenomenon prevents drain blockages, foul smells, and backflow in your kitchen sink. It is simply a box positioned inside the wastewater drainage system. They are used for more than years and are also known as grease catchers, grease separators, and grease interceptors. Grease traps are designed only for kitchen wastewater and should never expose to wastewater from other drainage systems such as toilets.
It can be made of mild steel, plastic, concrete, and most importantly, stainless steel. It is used for commercial purposes having sizes from 50 liters to 50000 liters and above.

How do the oil and grease trap plants work?
Grease traps plant work on the basis that animal fats and vegetable oils (grease) are 10 to 20 percent less dense than water. Due to that grease and oil don't mix with water. Thus, fats, greases, and oils float on top of the water.
When wastewater enters into a kitchen grease trap plant, the flow rate of wastewater is reduced enough by the baffles.
So the wastewater is given enough time to cool down and it separates into 3 layers. The fats and greases rise at the top inside the oil & grease trap plant and are trapped using a system of baffles. Solids waste settles at the bottom and the clear water in the middle escapes under an outlet baffle.
Many grease interceptors also have strainers for collecting solid debris and sludge, reducing the amount of solid waste that settles at the bottom of the grease separator.
