1. Preliminary level

In the initial stage, solid particles such as rags, sticks, etc. are removed from the wastewater through physical processes such as sedimentation, filtration, aeration, flow equalization, clarification and screening.

2. Primary Level

The next stage is primary level of treatment in which large solids and organic matter are removed through physical and chemical processes. The same physical process utilized in preliminary level is used here. Additionally, the chemical processes involve chemical coagulation, pH control, chemical precipitation, flocculation, dissolved air flotation, etc. to improve the quality of the wastewater.

3. Secondary Level

This level removes biodegradable organic materials and suspended matter by using biological and chemical processes.

4. Tertiary level

At the final stage, suspended and dissolved materials are removed using the physical, chemical and biological processes.
